small issues -> BIG FEAR

There are always situations in life where one faces speed-breakers on their path towards a goal.

I faced the same. It was a minor issue which I tried to solve but after few hours of researching and fruitless efforts, since I was short on time, I thought of taking the alternate road in order to avoid that 'speed-breaker'. I completed that project without any issues and memories of that issue were overshadowed by the satisfaction of completion.

After few months I again faced an issue and fired up my problem solving gears. After sometime I realized that this thought process seems like a Deja vu. Then it hit me, It Was The same Issue that I had few months ago and this time there was no short way around it. So I did the most logical thing ...... I took U-turn went back until I could find a road without that issue(That was my biggest mistake).

Month after month, Project after project my mind-sensors became so sensitive to that issue that I could see it coming at from the early stages of the project and would take such a path so distinct from that issue that I wouldn't encounter it at all no matter what the cost.

After a while that issue would arise again but this time the stakes were HIGH and I couldn't afford to go back and restart. There was no way around ....... only through it.

At this point of time my minuscule of an issue had unknowing grown into a mountain of fear. Sensing that issue coming up I delegated that part of work to someone else. Thus shielding myself from the blame.

I kept an eye on him and saw him go through the same thought processes and ideas which I did on the first try. Seeing him try new solutions which were already tried by me made me smirk and seeing him pull his hairs out of frustration, when that solution failed, made me feel sorry for him.

So once I confirmed that he has exhausted all the solutions which I had previously tried, I went to check up on him. There he was sitting on his chair with a childish grin and sparkling eyes yelling at me,

"I DID IT! I FOUND THE SOLUTION!!"

He Had Found A Way Through It. NOT 'Around' But THROUGH THE ISSUE!!!

Turns out after failing at implementing those 99 solutions which we both had, he had enough patience to go for the 100th one as well.

Only if I had the patience to try the 100th one as well when I faced the issue for the first time, it would have saved me weeks worth of time later on.

We generally tend to overlook our weakness and eventually with time create an image in our mind that those things were simply impossible to do.

And that's how small issues turned into BIG FEARS for me.
